How To Hide Hard Drive Partition in Windows Using Command Prompt

Everyone loves to hide their personal data in their Computer and If you are running Windows then you can use the Windows feature that helps you to hide your data like files and folders. But this is very old trick and most of the people aware about this trick and they can now see the hidden folder easily under the menu option provided by the Windows.

In this case, How about hiding an entire drive in Windows? Sounds cool? Yes, using some simple and handy commands, You can easily hide hard drive partition in Windows using Command prompt. The Command Prompt in Windows is a very powerful tool to accomplish certain tasks that usually can’t be done unless you have a third-party tool.


Step 1: Open my Computer and select the hard drive you want to hide (eg. E). Now click on start menu and search for CMD then click on it or simply press “Win+R” together and type here “CMD” then hit Enter to open prompted command screen.

Step 2: In the Command Prompt, type “Diskpart” and hit enter key. Click Yes if you are prompted with UAC (User Account Control) dialog-box.

Step 3: And then type “List Volume” and hit enter to see list of all drives.

Step 4: Select the drive that you want to hide. To do this, type “Select Volume E” (here, E is the drive letter) or “Select Volume 3” (here 3 is the volume number).

Step 5: To hide a drive, type “Remove Letter E“. Here, E is the drive letter than you want to hide.

You are done. Close the Command Prompt.


Step 1: Follow the procedure mentioned in step 1, 2, and 3.

Step 2: Select the volume number for which you want to assign a drive letter and show in the explorer. Type “Select Volume 3” (here, 3 is the volume number) and hit Enter key.

Step 3: Once selected, type “Assign Letter E” and hit Enter key to see the drive in explorer (replace E with the drive letter that you have previously removed).

You are done. Close the Command Prompt.
